President al-Assad: Liberation of Aleppo is a relapse for terrorism-backing countries

Damascus 22/12/2016, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad stressed on Thursday that the liberation of Aleppo from terrorism is a victory not just for Syria but for all those who are effectively contributing to the fight against terrorism, particularly Iran and Russia.
“It is also a relapse for all the countries that are hostile towards the Syrian people and that have used terrorism as a means to realize their interests,” said the President during a meeting with the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Jaberi Ansari and the accompanying delegation.

Talks focused on the latest developments in Syria and on the regional and international levels, with Ansari presenting to President al-Assad a review of the diplomatic efforts put towards ending the terrorist war waged on the Syrian people, especially with regard to the recent tripartite meeting in Moscow, which brought together the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey.

Stress was placed on the significance of the recent victory in Aleppo, which was regarded by both sides as a major step towards the full elimination of terrorism all over the Syrian territory and towards creating the favorable conditions to find a solution that brings the war to an end.
The Iranian diplomat noted that the strategic relations binding Syria and Iran for decades have contributed to fortifying the two countries, and the countries of the region in general, in the face of the external plots, stressing that Tehran will continue developing its relations with Damascus and providing all that is necessary to help consolidate the Syrian people’s steadfastness in confronting
terrorism.

Later, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Maollem met Ansari and listened to a detailed review of the results of the Moscow meeting between Iran, Russia and Turkey.
They also discussed the developments in Syria and the region, with the viewpoints of both sides matching on various issues.

Melanesia mourn their Fidel

By Godwin Ligo

Former Prime Minister and First Vanuatu Roving Ambassador, Barak Sopé, yesterday expressed his personal tribute to the late Fidel Castro of Cuba who died late last week.
Speaking from his home on Ifira in a telephone interview with the Daily Post, Barak Sopé, who was one of the young political activists for the Vanuatu independence during the New Hebrides era, related how Cuba was the first country in the world to support the then New Hebrides for a political freedom from the two colonial powers, Britain and France.
“In 1977 Father Walter Lini (late) and I were present during a UN Committee of 24th on Decolonization in New York.
“This was the first time that the Vanuatu cry for political independence was heard by the UN Committee of the 24th on Decolonization.
“It was through the Cuban President Fidel Castro, at the time that Cuba became the first country in the world to sponsor the then New Hebrides application to the UN 24th Committee on Decolonization in 1977.
“So, Father Walter Lini (late) who was the President of the Vanua’aku Party and I made a trip to New York to be present during the UN Committee of 24th on Decolonization to listen to the debate for our freedom,” Barak Sope recalled.
“It was timely too because Cuba did not only sponsor Vanuatu’s application to the UN Committee of 24th on Decolonization, but it so happened that at the time, Cuba chaired the UN Committee of 24th on Decolonization, and so we knew, with hope that our political freedom was eminent, with Cuba Ambassador appointed by President Fidel Castro to Chair the UN Committee of 24th on Decolonization,” Sopé recalled.
He said it was through the two roles that Cuba played at the time that the UN Committee of 24th on Decolonization shepherded Vanuatu’s application through.
Sopé said other countries that supported the then New Hebrides in its initial stages for political freedom through the UN were Algeria and Tanzania.
“After Independence in 1980, I was appointed by Vanuatu’s first Prime Minister Father Walter Lini (late) as Vanuatu’s first Roving Ambassador and Secretary for Foreign Affairs, because the Foreign Affairs at the time were under the Prime Minister’s portfolio.
“In August 1981 Prime Minister Father Walter Lini appointed me as a Special Envoy to travel to Havana, Cuba, to deliver Vanuatu’s Special Message of “thank you and appreciation” to Cuban President Fidel Castro, and at the same time formalized diplomatic relations with Cuba that saw Vanuatu flag raised in Havana.
“I could not travel through the US at the time, so I had to make a long trip via UK and Canada and then to Havana, Cuba where I was accorded a high level welcome and personally me President Fidel Castro, in his Presidential Palace.
“I extended to him on behalf of the Government and the people of Vanuatu, deep appreciation for the support that President Fidel Castro and his country that paved the way from Havana to the corridors of the United Nations and finally to the Committee of the 24th on Decolonization that released our colonized country and people from Britain and France to become the Independent state and the new Republic of Vanuatu,” Sopé said.
“Port Vila tied diplomatic relations with Havana in August 1981 before becoming a full member of the United Nations (UN) in September of 1981-the same year, but we recognized Cuba first because without Cuba and President Fidel Castro, it may have taken longer or never for this country to become an Independent State from Britain and France,” Barak Sope recalled.
“In 1977 Father Walter Lini and I attended the UN Decolonization Committee in informal clothing but in 1981 we attended the UN General Assembly for the first time after Independence where Father Walter Lini the first Vanuatu Prime Minister addressed the UN General Assembly for the first time as an Independent State and as the UN welcomed Vanuatu as its full member.
“Today, I am sad to say that Vanuatu has lost its first political pillar of our political freedom, the late President Fidel Castro. Personally, and of course the country has lost a man that stood up for the right of the political freedom of our nation and people in international forum and the United Nations. We truly miss him,” Sopé noted of the passing away of Cuba’s former President, Fidel Castro.
The former Cuban President Fidel Castro handed his responsibilities in 2006 to Raul Castor.
He died at the age of 90 on November 25, 2016.
The relations with Cuba was enhanced further when the country provided scholarships for ni-Vanuatu to attend medical school there to become doctors.

Fidel - In memoriam

Bisognava lasciar latrare i cani. È ancora notte, ma presto taceranno.
Possiamo cominciare a dire.

Statement by Dominica's Prime Minister Skerrit on the passing of Fidel Castro

Office of The Prime Minister - Saturday, November 26th, 2016 at 3:26 PM (UTC-4)

It was with sadness that I received the news of the passing of Comrade Fidel Castro, the former President and the Revolutionary Leader of the Cuban Revolution, the Cuban people. Fidel Castro was somebody who had a very long and positive impact on the entire world having served for several decades.
But it is not only about his long-standing leadership of Cuba that is of note, but his generosity to the world and the impact which Cuba made on Freedom for many countries. In South Africa, Cuba was very instrumental with the ANC in fighting for the equal rights of people of colour. Also in many African countries, Cuba played a very critical role in the freedom of black people, African people.
In terms of health care and education, I believe that every country in this world would have been impacted upon by the generosity of the Cuban leader, Fidel Castro. He was a well respected world leader. In Dominica, in every sphere of our society has been impacted by the generosity of Fidel Castro.
We will certainly miss him a lot and miss his presence in the world. We wish to extend our sincere condolences from the Government and people of Dominica, and my own behalf and that of my family, to the Government, his brother Raul, and to the Cuban people, and the Cuban Ambassador resident here in Dominica – our sincere and deepest condolences on the passing of Fidel.
I have had the occasion over an extended period of time to interact with him. I consider him to be a mentor, I consider him to be a friend. I have learned quite a bit from him in terms of his leadership and how he views world issues.
In recognition of his life and his contribution to Dominica and the Caribbean region, our flags in Dominica will be flown at half staff until the day after his burial as a sign of our respect, admiration, and appreciation for his contribution to Dominica.
Fortunately for us, we had the opportunity to bestow upon him a few years ago, the highest national award of our country in recognition of not only his contribution to Dominica but his contribution to the region.

The tribute text

Salutations
• H. E Raul Castro, President of the Republic of Cuba
• Heads of State and Government
• Excellencies
• Ladies and Gentlemen
• The Great Cuban People
The pages of history record that in every century, there has emerged at least one larger-than-life personality who captures the attention of the world if only for their unique boldness in pursuing the extraordinary and for the shockwaves they generate in confronting oppression and the established order.
Fidel Castro, the acknowledged leader of the Cuban revolution, was one such person. I feel privileged to have been able to call him a friend and mentor.
Inspired by the great Cuban independence hero Jose Marti, who had the vision of a Cuba free of U.S interference, a Cuba “for all Cubans and the good of all Cubans”; he liberated Cubans from the brutal Batista dictatorship, leading his country along the socialist path of self-determination.
For over fifty years, and with the support of friends, the Cuban revolution survived a harsh, western engineered economic and trade embargo that cost you, the Cuban people, billions of dollars. The Caribbean Community, CARICOM, recalls with pride that it was four of our Member States who rallied together in 1972 to break the diplomatic isolation of Cuba in this hemisphere.
Under the indomitable leadership of Fidel, Cuba did not only survive, but went on to develop a public health care system second to none, an education system that left no one behind, a capacity for scientific research and for innovation in the pharmaceutical industry that has placed Cuba among global leaders, and an athletics and sports infrastructure renowned for producing world champions.
Comrade Fidel’s zeal to untangle the grip of colonisation and oppression went beyond the shores of his beloved Cuba.
His interventions in Mozambique and the Angolan War changed the course of history in these two former Portuguese colonies and played a defining role in the struggle to free South Africa and the continent from the scourge of apartheid.
He was a true friend, reaching out to newly independent countries across Latin America and the Caribbean to assist in areas where Cuba was relatively strong. This was especially evident in the training of medical doctors and other health care workers and the granting of scholarships in other disciplines.
CARICOM will be forever grateful to Fidel and to you, the Cuban people for the great sacrifices you have made, against great adversity, in annually sustaining the training of our professionals for decades on both a bilateral and multilateral basis.
It is difficult to identify a sector in any of our economies that Cuba and Comrade Fidel have not impacted for the better. I can say, without fear of being contradicted, that our health services would be the poorer, but for the generous hand of Fidel at critical times in our development. We have recognised that contribution, by awarding him our highest honour, the Order of the Caribbean Community, in 2008, the only non-CARICOM citizen to whom it has been accorded.
Comrade Fidel was undoubtedly, one of the iconic political giants of the second half of the twentieth century. He joins a distinguished brotherhood of freedom fighters such as Yasser Arafat and Nelson Mandela, whose resilience and determination were a source of strength for their people.
Cuba now mourns the loss of a great leader, teacher and father; we share the pain and emptiness that you feel, for we have lost a faithful and valued friend.
His memory lives on in our mission to provide for our people and to build a world in which justice, fairness and peace prevail.
Fidel Castro was a man of his time and used the tools available to deal with the realities faced by Cuba, in the fight against injustice and oppression.
As for me, I have lost a friend and a great teacher. A man who had a genuine interest in the peculiar challenges besetting small island states and who readily assisted, not only in thought and talk, but in deed.
The Commonwealth of Dominica shall, at the appropriate time, act decisively to ensure that his contribution to our island and region, and indeed to humanity, is memorialized, for the enlightenment of future generations.
Rest, My Brother, Rest Peacefully.

Τζάμπα ο σαματάς;

Γιατί λοιπόν τόση φασαρία;
-Είναι πλαστός ο σαματάς;
-Αποκρύπτεται η ουσία της διαφοροποίησής των, και πού βρίσκεται αυτή;
-Μήπως είναι το στυλ και το ύφος που έχουν σημασία;
-Μήπως το διαφορετικό 5% είναι ποιοτικά ανάλογο της διαφοράς ας πούμε του γονιδιώματος χόμο σάπιενς και λοιπών πρωτευόντων;

Αυτός λοιπόν είναι ο δρόμος του καπιταλιστικού εκσυγχρονισμού για την Ελλάδα. Αυτή είναι η κυβέρνηση που εκτελεί με μπρίο τα συμφωνηθέντα - ετοιμάζεται για την εξαέρωση των εργασιακών σχέσεων. Αυτή είναι η αντιπολίτευση, που πρέπει ν᾽ανεβάζει κάποιο ψυχαγωγικό πρόγραμμα, αφού για τα βασικά έχει απόλυτη ομόνοια και συστράτευση με την κυβέρνηση. Έτσι θα πηγαίνει. Εσύ πόση περισσότερη ηλιθιότητα θ᾽αντέξεις;
